The New BMW X7 – It Moves Mountains

Article by Michael & Amy Cotsworth

What to do when the good folks at Schomp BMW in Highlands Ranch kindly loan you a brand new BMW X7, the newest model from the company whose mantra is delivering “The Ultimate Driving Machine”?

The answer is easy – go for a long drive to bask in the performance, luxury, and amazing array of technological features offered up by this sleek three-row SUV; then finish off the day with drinks and dinner at Perry’s Steakhouse at Park Meadows Mall.

Given the company’s heritage of creating high-performance vehicles, BMW emphasizes the “Sport” in Sport Utility Vehicle. The heart of the X7 is the highly sophisticated 3.0-liter, twin-turbo, direct-injected, 24-valve, inline six-cylinder engine. Add in an eight-speed auto/manual transmission with paddle shifters and launch-control, BMW’s multi-faceted Dynamic Stability Control system, self-leveling air suspension, and xDrive rear-biased all-wheel drive to complete the package of one very competent people-hauler.

The lucky people being hauled, rapidly, in the X7 travel in a fair degree of luxury as well. Leather and natural wood abound, of course, along with such niceties as heated front and rear seats, heated front armrests, power side window sunshades, and wireless charging stations. For stargazing while en route, the roof panel above all three rows of seats is a panoramic, transparent moon roof. Stereo surround sound with HD radio and satellite radio is well handled by a high-powered Harman Kardon system. The system offers a perfect warm-up on the way to an evening of live music at Perry’s, which is featured daily.

Lest the occupant strain themselves loading luggage or arranging the passenger seats to their desired configuration, the rear tailgate opens at the press of a button to reveal an array of switches that raise or lower any combination of the second and third row seats. The same can be done from the driver’s seat.

The driver’s seat is definitely the place to be. All BMW vehicles are strongly driver-focused, and the X7 is no exception.  With a 12.3-inch digital display including a seven-inch navigation screen, heads-up display showing speed and navigation turns and/or media information, automatic headlights with auto high-beam, and every hi-tech driver’s aid the engineers could design, the driver piloting the X7 is well informed and equipped to handle whatever driving situation he/she might encounter.

The luxury and staggering technology of the X7 are impressive, but being DRIVEN is where this BMW truly excels. Despite its size to accommodate third row seating, the X7 never feels like a big car from the driver’s seat. The high revving and responsive turbocharged engine is a joy to command, giving quick acceleration and effortless passing capability.  There is the smallest hint of turbo lag, but judicious modulation of the throttle makes that almost non-existent. Big ventilated disc brakes on all four corners ensure the X7 has the legendary stopping power for which BMWs are renown.

Like the other X-series SUVs from BMW, the driving experience and handling characteristics of the X7 are closer to that of a sports sedan than what you would expect from a roomy SUV. Arguably, BMW has the best combination of sporty handling and comfortable ride of any vehicle on the road. Driving any BMW is a driver’s delight; gripping the fat steering wheel, feeling the surge of acceleration, confident that the superb handling and awesome brakes will ensure maximum enjoyment from carving a twisty mountain road to cruising a long stretch of open highway. The X7, for a mere $82,000, allows you to share these motoring sensations with the entire family, or six of your closest friends.

Truly a versatile multi-passenger, cargo-carrying AWD vehicle, with surprising high-performance capabilities, the X7 is more than ready to handle any task. It may not literally move mountains, but it can indeed move anything or anyone you might want to transport in style, speed, and luxury, to most any destination, including the mountains!

Speaking of mountains and of Perry’s Steakhouse, the aforementioned destination in this sleek machine, when you visit this stylish and comfortable dining establishment, be sure to seize the opportunity to order the gargantuan and delectable Seven-finger Pork Chop, a unique Perry’s specialty! Measuring an incomparable seven fingers high, this chop is roasted and slow smoked to caramelized perfection for six hours in pecan wood, finished with herb garlic butter, and carved tableside. This is a must-try dish that is available during Perry’s Friday lunch between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and on Sundays from 4 to 9 p.m.

If a gigantic pork chop is not to your taste, Perry’s menu offers something to tantalize every palate, including prime-quality steaks, seafood, pasta, vegetarian and gluten-free options.

Not to be outdone by the mouthwatering menu offerings of Executive Chef Bryan Anderson, the lounge side of Perry’s, known as Bar 79, has some winning specialties as well!  Whether you drop in for Social Hour specials, offered Monday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m., or order a cocktail as a preamble to your exquisite meal, make sure you give their deliciously crafted martinis a try! The signature Martini 79 and the crisp and refreshing Cucumber Blue Martini are not to be missed! A finely curated wine selection is also provided.

Perry’s offers onsite wine lockers, regular in-house sommelier events for wine locker members, and private dining for groups and events. The steakhouse events often play host to the fine folks of Schomp Automotive, our benefactors for the lovely X7 that brought us to this classy and atmospheric dining experience!

Perry’s is open 4 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday for dinner, and serves lunch and dinner on Fridays between 10:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. Visit PerrysRestaurants.com for reservations, menu listings, special promotions, and more information.
